His music is both provocative and soothing, evoking a sense of yearning while immersing listeners in deeply chanting melodies.

His accolades include the Royal Music Academy Scholarship (2017) and recognition with the Swedish Jazz Final award at the Blue House in Stockholm (2019) as part of the Cosmic Express Quintet. The urgency in his music, his cry for answers to his questions, and his faith are very moving. His saxophone playing is also exceptionally intense—powerful and heartfelt. I’m truly surprised and eager to hear what he comes up with next.”

Radiohoerer.info

“The eight short pieces of The Calling inject a Nordic melancholic twist into the American spiritual free jazz. Ingvarsson embodies his raw emotions in the spacious music and evokes a sense of reverent yearning, as well as a mature sensibility of compassion, understanding that the music serves as a healing force in his life. He enjoys the minimalist yet dynamic, thoughtful contributions of Graden and Osgood, cementing the music in austere, immersive textures. The music is developed slowly as melodic musical meditations that express feelings of frustration, aspiration, and unanswered questions, as well as the comfort of a collective, supportive interplay.”

Jan Granlie, saltpeanuts.eu

“At its core, “The Calling” is a trio record that understands the power of restraint. Ingvarsson’s tenor and baritone saxophones don’t preach; they confess, hesitate, and occasionally mutter under their breath. His lines often feel like psalms rewritten by someone who skipped church but kept the hymns lodged somewhere deep in the body. Johan Graden’s piano and organ work provides a harmonic terrain that is at once grounded and slippery, moving between meditative repetition and sudden, sideways harmonic decisions that feel like doors opening where you expected walls.”

Vito Camaretta, chaindlk.com

“Isak Ingvarsson transcends the delicate subject matter with a well-constructed jazz album potentially suitable for a wide audience: an important debut, awaiting confirmation in the future.”

Piergiuseppe Lippolis, musicmap.it

Swedish saxophonist, clarinetist, and flutist Isak Ingvarsson has established himself as a distinctive voice on the European music scene in recent years.
