Swedish saxophonist, clarinetist, and flutist Isak Ingvarsson has established himself as a distinctive voice on the European music scene in recent years. He developed his practice at the City College of New York, where he earned a Master of Music under the mentorship of Tim Berne and performed in several projects across the United States.
Ingvarsson has toured extensively throughout Europe and the U.S., performing with prominent artists including Tim Berne, Tom Rainey, John Hébert, Per “Texas” Johansson, Michala Østergaard-Nielsen, Kresten Osgood, Kweku Sumbry, Shakoor Hakeem, Fredrik Ljungkvist, Gilbert Holmström, and Timothy Angulo.
As a composer and performer, Ingvarsson channels raw emotion and his spiritual upbringing into his work, drawing inspiration from ancient folk music, minimalist soundscapes, and the avant-garde. His music is both provocative and soothing, evoking a sense of yearning while immersing listeners in deeply chanting melodies.
His accolades include the Royal Music Academy Scholarship (2017) and recognition with the Swedish Jazz Final award at the Blue House in Stockholm (2019) as part of the Cosmic Express Quintet. He received the Phonogram scholarship twice as a sideman and once as a leader.
In 2025, he founded the group “FÖR” with Shakoor Hakeem and Kweku Sumbry and is set to tour the East Coast and Europe with the group in 2026.
